Deep red/purple colour, impressive for pinot, the bouquet subdued and shy, but clean and appealing, while the palate is concentrated and dense, deep and full-bodied. It has power and structure, ample tannins and yet no astringency or greenness. It's balanced, the palate possessing richness and fruit- sweetness galore. Built delicious black cherries with airing. Impressive for a second-string pinot!

The 2016 Crimson Martinborough Pinot Noir has an elegant bouquet with raspberry, cranberry and sous- boisaromas that are quite Old World in style. The palate is well balanced, displaying fine grip and a slightly grainy texture, but there is a sense of tension here. It needs a little more finesse towards the finish but otherwise this should give up to five years of drinking enjoyment.
